On Monday, Nov. 10, representatives of River City Bank Blairsville traveled to Union County High School to make a generous donation to the Union County College and Career Academy.
Students at the College and Career Academy receive workforce training for employment in any number of fields that are relevant to Union County’s existing industries, providing opportunities for students to stay in their community after graduating while bolstering the local economy.
The donation was made through the Georgia PEACH Education Tax Credit, a program that allows contributors to offset their state income tax liability with dollar-for-dollar tax credits to directly benefit participants like the College and Career Academy.
“River City Bank is proud to support the Union County College and Career Academy with a $30,000 donation to help advance its mission of preparing students for success in both college and the workforce,” said River City Blairsville Market President Scott Nanney.
“At River City Bank, we believe that strong communities are built through education, opportunity and partnership,” Nanney continued. “The Academy’s programs equip students with valuable skills, real-world experiences, and the confidence to pursue rewarding careers – values that align perfectly with our commitment to community growth and development.
“This donation reflects our belief in investing locally to make a lasting impact. We are honored to play a small part in supporting the next generation of leaders, innovators and professionals right here in Union County.
“Thank you for the important work you do each day to empower students and strengthen our community. We look forward to seeing the continued success of your programs and the bright futures of your students.”
For its part, Union County High School was “incredibly honored” to receive the $30,000 donation.
“This generous contribution is a powerful example of how local businesses can wisely allocate their tax dollars to support local students, workforce development, and CTAE programs right here in Union County,” the High School shared on social media.
“By choosing to direct their tax credit locally, River City Bank is investing in the future of our students and our community, and we could not be more grateful for their support. Thank you, River City Bank, for your leadership and partnership!”
CTAE Director Charley Cattanach, who also serves as CEO of the College and Career Academy, reiterated the donation’s impact as “a major investment in our students and in the future workforce of Union County.”
“Support like this helps us upgrade equipment, buy needed materials for hands-on learning, and provide opportunities for our CTAE student organizations, including competition preparation and travel,” Cattanach said.
“Their commitment, along with that of our other donors, expands what we can offer students and shows a shared focus on building a strong and future-ready workforce for Union County,” he continued. “We are truly grateful for their support.
