YOUNG HARRIS – Effective Thursday, May 28, Georgia 515 is getting a temporary three-way stop where the new bypass intersects the highway next to Brasstown Creek Road, between the Dollar General and Victoria’s Antiques.
According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, the temporary traffic pattern change will facilitate construction on the south side of the roundabout that will eventually be opened at the location of the three-way stop.

The intersection will feature stop signs for east and westbound commuters on 515, and one for drivers coming from Brasstown Creek Road, enabling businesses and residents on Brasstown Creek Road to once again access 515 there using the bypass entrance/exit at the highway.
As it is still under construction, the bypass will remain closed to through-traffic for now.
GDOT District 1 Communications Officer Nathan Johnston said road signs will be put out to help people understand the new traffic pattern.
“Eastbound traffic on SR 515 will utilize the roundabout apron to accommodate turning movements,” Johnston said. “Westbound traffic on SR 515 will utilize the temporary paving section to provide additional space for turning movements.”
By press time, the newspaper was unable to learn how long the temporary change would be in place, but for the time being, people should expect travel delays in both directions of 515 due to the stop signs.
