In the article about the GOP School Board Candidate Forum from the April 22 edition of the newspaper, the reporting created a misunderstanding among some readers regarding District 2 School Board Candidate John Davis’ intentions to change school culture if elected.
The article reported that Davis said he would work to change the culture of the schools by hiring better teachers and better administrators, giving some readers the false impression that he would seek to completely replace teaching and administrative staff.

Davis contacted the newspaper last week to clear up the misunderstanding.
According to Davis, “I want to take a moment to clarify a statement that was recently shared in the newspaper regarding my comments about our schools.
“When I answered a question about improving the culture and morale in our schools, I was talking about creating a more positive and supportive environment by fostering open communication so both teachers and students feel heard and valued, and ensuring transparency for staff, families, and the community.
“I did not say, nor do I believe, that this should be achieved by replacing our current teachers or administrators. I have great respect for the dedicated professionals who serve our students every day.
“My focus is on collaboration, support, and creating the kind of positive atmosphere where both educators and students can thrive.
“I appreciate the opportunity to clarify and remain committed to working together for the success of our schools and community.
“I wanted to make sure my words were clear and my intentions were not misconstrued.”
Added Davis, “I also want to clarify another point reported from the forum. I was not referring to any specific individual when discussing investigations or discipline. I was speaking in general terms about the importance of reviewing concerns, conducting fair investigations, and acting appropriately when credible facts are established.
“No individual was singled out or targeted for termination.
“The intent of my comments was to emphasize accountability, due process, and trust in decision-making.”
