King’s Hometown Pharmacy was hit in an overnight burglary on Monday, Dec. 22. It was the second such crime at the Blairsville-based drug store in the last year, though authorities would not confirm if they believed the incidents to be related.
The crime is being investigated by the Blairsville Police Department with assistance from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Union County Sheriff’s Office.
Citing the ongoing nature of the joint investigation, Blairsville Police Chief Michael “Bear” Baxter declined to comment on specifics related to the burglary, like what was taken and how.
But Chief Baxter did say that the pharmacy property, located at the intersection of School Circle and Young Harris Steet, was damaged in the commission of the crime, and that multiple individuals were wanted in connection with the burglary.
“At this point, we’re following several positive leads,” Baxter said.
The chief does not believe residents should be worried about a general uptick in burglaries around the community, as this appears to be an “isolated event” involving out-of-town criminals targeting a certain type of business.
Apparently, nearby areas have experienced similar pharmacy thefts, though Baxter again declined to provide details.
This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
