The Mountain Regional Library System is excited to announce the installation and launch of two new Anytime Self-Service Book Lockers, providing residents with convenient access to library materials around the clock, any day of the year.

The book lockers allow patrons to pick up materials they have placed on hold at any time of day or night – even when the library is closed. This service is designed to serve community members with busy schedules or those who cannot visit the library during regular operating hours. Each locker is located onsite at each library branch location.

“We are thrilled to offer this new level of flexibility to our patrons,” said Heath Lee, Director of the Mountain Regional Library System. “Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for everyone in our community to access the books and resources they need.

“These lockers will be a game-changer for people who work late, have demanding family schedules, or simply prefer to visit the library on their own time.”

Funding for the lockers is part of a nearly $5 million award to the Georgia Public Library Service via the Georgia Office of the Governor and the State of Georgia Capital Project Fund, sourced from the American Rescue Plan Act.

“This investment enables libraries to bridge the digital divide in their communities, offering patrons essential tools for learning and connectivity,” said Julie Walker, Vice Chancellor for Libraries and Archives and State Librarian. “By expanding access to technology, Georgia’s public libraries continue to be vital resources for individuals and families, promoting digital literacy and providing pathways to opportunity.”

The new book lockers are a significant step forward in the library system’s mission to innovate and provide accessible services to its communities. The lockers will be available 365 days a year, providing seamless, uninterrupted service.

Please contact either the Union County Public Library or the Mountain Regional Library for more information on the lockers and how to easily begin using them. Visit the MRLS website at mountainlibrary.com for branch information or how to acquire a PINES library card.

The Mountain Regional Library System serves the residents of Fannin, Union and Towns Counties in North Georgia, with locations in Blue Ridge, Blairsville, Hiawassee and Young Harris.
