Mr. George Olen Thompson, age 92 of Hamilton Rd, Blairsville, GA passed away peacefully on Friday, August 28, 2026, at his home following an extended illness. Mr. Thompson was born on November 15, 1933, in Blairsville, GA, the son of the late John Clayburn Thompson and the late Zadie Nicholson Thompson. George was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He enjoyed golfing, rabbit hunting, raising beagles, and loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. George was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Earl Thompson, Hoyt Thompson, Charles Thompson, sisters; Inez Townsend, Anne Cody, Betty Roberts, Sylvia Thompson, and Norma Johnston. Mr. Thompson was of the Catholic faith.

Surviving Mr. Thompson are his loving wife and best friend of sixty years, Fidelis Thompson of Blairsville, GA, two sons; George Thompson, Jr. of Dalton, GA, Scotty Thompson of Blairsville, GA, daughter; Cynthia Jones of Blairsville, GA, eight grandchildren; Gavin Thompson, Alaina Clenent, Autumn Davis, Luna Thompson, Colby Jones, Noah Jones, Stratton Mcdougald, Harmony, and four great grandchildren; Coletee, Tommie, Blakely, and Luca. Many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday September 1, 2026 at 9:00 am at St. Francis of Assisi catholic Church with Father Cong Nguyen officiating. Special music will be presented by Liz Melatti. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Gavin Thompson, Colby Jones, Noah Jones, Caleb Clenent and Stanton Davis. Military Honors will be conducted by the North GA Honor Guard. Interment will follow in the Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6-8:00 pm.
