Ramsey was booked into the Fannin County Jail and is facing charges of aggravated assault “with intent to murder a police officer,” according to McCaysville Police Chief Michael Otis Earley.

The shooting occurred around 11:10 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 12, as Capt. Worley was responding to a call for service, resulting in the officer being “critically injured in the line of duty.”

“Captain Worley is a dedicated officer who has faithfully served this community, and we are asking everyone to keep him, his family, and our department in your thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time,” Earley said.

Many agencies assisted McCaysville PD with the manhunt, including the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office, “and several surrounding local, state, and federal partners.”

“We are grateful for their rapid response and continued support as we work together to bring this suspect into custody,” Earley said Saturday morning. “The safety of our community remains our top priority, and we will not rest until Timothy Ramsey is apprehended and justice is served.”

Details of his capture were not available at press time, but it was no doubt helpful that the GBI pushed out mobile “Blue Alerts” – signifying a grievous attack on law enforcement – giving a description of Ramsey and warning the public that he was considered “armed and dangerous.”

Additionally, the Georgia Emergency Management and Home Security Agency pushed out “Civil Emergency Alerts” to area cellphones as well to further alert the public about Ramsey.

“We want to thank all of our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners who helped to make this arrest possible,” GBI said Saturday evening. “Their unwavering support and collaboration have been vital in the investigation and keeping the public safe. We also want to thank the community for their cooperation and partnership.

“Our hearts are with the McCaysville Police Department. We extend our prayers to Captain Brantley Worley, his family, and his co-workers during his recovery.”

The newspaper did not know Capt. Worley’s condition at press time.

Pickens County Fire and Rescue shared on Facebook Saturday that Brantley was “one of our own,” actively serving as a part-time firefighter and EMT in addition to his policing duties.

The post described the injured first responder as “a brother everyone enjoys being around” and a “community servant to the bone.”

“He has the determination to pull through this unfortunate situation,” the post read. “He along with his wife Jessica and children are facing some tough times and will need our thoughts and prayers, so please join us in that effort. Hang in there, brother, we know you got this!”

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp responded to the shooting on social media as well, adding his voice to the growing chorus of people concerned about the situation.

“Marty, the girls, and I are asking all Georgians to join us in praying for this officer who was shot in the line of duty, as well as all law enforcement who face this kind of danger on a regular basis to protect their communities,” Kemp said.

All individuals are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.
