The Union County Board of Education recognized the Union County High School Cross Country Teams at its Feb. 26 work session following state tourney placements for both boys and girls. Specifically, the boys team won Third Place in state, and the girls took home Fourth Place.
Similarly, the Extra Mile Award was awarded to Union County Fire Capt. Justin Blanchard and Firefighter Jason Reese. According to Director of Teaching and Learning C.T. Hussion, the pair responded to a “student emergency” that could have ended in tragedy. Although details were kept under wraps to protect the student’s privacy, Hussion believes the pair absolutely saved a life that day.
At the end of the regular meeting that evening, Board Chair Tony Hunter revealed that Superintendent John Hill had earned his doctorate degree in education with a concentration in leadership from Varsity University. The board congratulated Dr. Hill on the achievement, leading to applause.
As part of the action items on the agenda, board members voted to approve the monthly principals’ reports along with the December 2025 financial reports.
